Work package 6 - Industrial Control
In the industrial control domain applications become more and more miniaturized. On top of this regulations such as functional safety according to IEC61508 bring in additional requirements.
Known concepts implemented on board level need to be further developed to also apply in highly integrated System-on-Chip solutions, e.g. fault isolation is of major importance in this context.
Furthermore deterministic communication is essential in motion control and automation platforms. The ARTEMIS cross-domain architecture developed in the previous FP7 GENESYS project promises to be a solid platform for addressing these needs and gets realized in the proposed project.
The ACROSS domain specific work package “WP6 Industrial Control” focuses on the exploitation of the results of the work packages WP1 – WP3 for Industrial Control applications.
The superior momentum of this concept is based on the cross domain model based design approach, which is extended by domain specific add-ons for the MPSoC hardware platform, the generic middleware and the methodology.
Since this approach is generic, the extensions for specific domains follow strictly the same principles.
The ACROSS domain specific work package "WP6 Wireless Communication" focuses on the potential capability of the ACROSS architecture to be used in the wireless communication domain. In this part of WP6, the wireless domain-specific services are implemented in software by utilizing the DigRF interface service which is implemented in hardware in WP1.
An assessment of the ACROSS MPSoC platform is carried out by the realization of two different demonstration applications.

Industrial control application demonstrator: A programmable logic control (PLC) device for an industrial material sorting machine is replaced with the ACROSS MPSoC platform. The sorting machine is controlled by an application running on the ACROSS MPSoC platform.
Wireless communication application demonstrator: A baseband component is implemented on the ACROSS MPSoC platform which executes a number of test scenarios to evaluate the low level communication between the baseband and an RF transceiver device.
